What is internet

The word internet means International Network. It is a global network of computers and mobile devices connected to each other in such a way that they can share data, information, and resources. The computers and devices are connected through different telecommunication links like:
  • Phone lines
  • Fiber optics 
  • Satellite and wireless connections
Internet is used to find information stored in a remote computer called host or servers. Each computer which is connected to the internet and provides some service to the other computer is called host computer. The computer which takes services from the hosts is called a client.
People can find information enjoy entertainment and do different types of communication using the internet. The modern social media activities like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Wattsup have all become possible due to the internet. The internet has made this world a global village.

History of internet

The work of the internet was started in the 1960s during the cold war between the USA and Russia.

Americans want to communicate with their army in different places during the war. For this purpose, Americans started working to establish a new type of communication network based on packet switching technology. The project was assigned to defense advance connecting four computers which could share data.

The idea of share data using computer networks soon becomes popular. During the 1970s to 1980s, several universities and research institute developed their own computer network. In 1986s, the national science foundation, another federal agency established the network named as NSFNET. The NFSNET was also assessable by the general public along with defense institution and universities, which evolved and came to be known as the Internet. The development of TCP/Ip is the bloodline if body internet.
